Hello my friends, and welcome to this episode of 3DSCast. In this episode, we sit down with Sorunome, the creator and lead programmer of NetPass!

If you’re unaware, NetPass allows StreetPass data to be exchanged via the Internet, rather than needing to be physically near another 3DS console, which is how it was originally designed. We take a deep dive into how NetPass works, as well as how it uses existing StreetPass protocols to make it work.

It’s a fascinating and educational discussion, in which I learned a ton, and I hope you do to. Thanks so much for listening, and enjoy the show!

Thank you for another entertaining yet informative podcast!

Thank you to Sorunome as well for explaining the in-depth workings of StreetPass, SPR, and NetPass! I never knew that the 3DS also uses the wifi protocol for StreetPassing! And thank you for creating this wonderful feature. It really brings back the magic of StreetPass, since it’s a feature that Nintendo made that was just wonderful, but sadly went away.

I got my 3DS in 2013, but because of where I live, I never get to experience Nintendo Zone. I only get to experience SPR through Pretendo where you tag friends registered in your friends list.

Though personally I don’t use NetPass (because I prefer tagging organically), having this available really opens up the world of the 3DS even wider than ever before. And honestly, this made me reconsider if I should have NetPass installed or not. I also find myself spending more time in StreetPass Mii Plaza, especially playing Ultimate Angler!

    Can’t wait to hear more!

Thank you for listening! You really should try Netpass as tagging organically is just so, so rare these days.
